Resolution of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland of 10 September 2004 on Poland's rights to German war reparations and on unlawful claims against Poland and Polish citizens made in Germany
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland, conscious of the role of historical truth and elementary justice in Polish-German relations:
states that Poland has not yet received adequate financial compensation or war reparations for the enormous damage and material and immaterial losses caused by the German aggression, occupation, genocide and loss of Poland's independence. The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls upon the Government of the Republic of Poland to take appropriate action in this matter against the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany;
declares that Poland does not incur any financial obligations towards the citizens of the Federal Republic of Germany resulting from the Second World War and its consequences;
urges the Government to present to the public as soon as possible an estimate of the material and non-material damage suffered by the Polish State and its citizens as a result of the Second World War;
appeals to the authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany to recognise the groundlessness and illegality of German claims for compensation against Poland and to stop directing citizens to court or start administrative action against Poland. The Sejm of the Republic of Poland calls upon the Government of the Republic of Poland to take decisive steps to ensure that the Federal Republic of Germany finally recognises its potential liability for compensation for damage suffered by German citizens as a result of the displacement and loss of assets of the population after the Second World War resulting from the Potsdam Agreement and subsequent repatriation processes.
